North East Calgary
Home to the YYC Airport, the city’s NE is the transportation and logistics hub that is also well known as the most culturally diverse of the four quadrants. Many of the communities feature businesses with international flair and cater to ethnicities and religions from around the world. Given the diversity, real estate development has really focused on multi-generational and extended family housing to accommodate the demand.
Driven economically by the ever-expanding warehousing and distribution areas surrounding the airport, the northeast now has more hotels than downtown Calgary. Having grown by more than 6,000 residents in 2018, it is the fastest growing quadrant in the city with new communities such as Cityscape and Skyview Ranch attracting a younger demographic.
The soon-to-be 1.1 million square foot shopping outlet Deerfoot City, the Peter Lougheed hospital, and the home of the popular Country Thunder Concert Event - Prairie Winds Park – are some of the highlights of the NE landscape. You’ll also find there six golf courses, seven Calgary Transit Light Rail System (LRT) stations, the Calgary Zoo and the Telus Science Centre.
Calgary’s NE quadrant is a great location for newcomers to the city who want to immerse themselves in multicultural amenities and activities. There are plenty of opportunities and events that celebrate the diversity of this city we call home.
Some of our favourite neighbourhoods are:
- Skyview Ranch
Honourable mention: Bridgeland, an inner-city gem located a stone’s throw from the Calgary Zoo.
